Hugo Junkers (pronounced
Yoonkers) (1859-1935) inventor of the double piston "Junkers Motor"in 1915, never stopped innovating.
Between 1930 and 1931 (at 72 years old) his company introduced 3 revolutionary new planes including the
world's first all metal aircraft. The JU52, Aunt JU or "Iron Annie" as she was called, was easily identified
by her unique corrugated iron skin which added rigidity to the fuselage. These unique striped planes
were ubiquitious, dominating the airways, they were seen in the fleets of virtually every airline and cargo company around
the globe. Lufthansa and other members of the fledgling airline industry flew them for decades, and some are still
flying today.
Hugo Junkers
was not only a brilliant engineer, but also a great admirer of expressionist painting and modern design. Consequently he developed
a long standing and very productive connection with the artists of the Bauhaus movement. Faithful to the motto
of Marcel Breuer: "The good artist works together with the good engineer", Hugo Junkers took on the high aesthetic
values of the Bauhaus movement in the creation of his airplanes. The clean, classic lines
of "Bauhaus Collection" below reflect that time honored "form follows function"
phiosophy along with styling cues taken from the classic watches of the 40's & 50's,
featuring 40mm cases ,5 ATM water resistance, bubble crystals and bottlecap dials.
